I have to admit I am stunned to learn that even Ray Nagin made some big boo-boo's in Katrina's aftermath. Sad, too. I really thought he was heroic. It is quite alarming to realize how much Nagin and Blanco messed up and "froze" when the emergency they had planned for actually occurred. It is apparent even to me that Gov. Kathleen Blanco was out of her depth and I have been extremely UN-impressed with her defensiveness since. I know it's humiliating, but she might as well admit she messed up. We all know it anyway and she looks worse when she keeps trying to act like she did everything she could.

I guess Wichita won't be receiving 1,800 evacuees after all; at least that's what Tom told me he saw on tv Sunday. I wrote my check from my voice student income plus another check I'd received for selling homeschool materials and gave that toward Katrina on Monday (yesterday). Tonight I think John will be taking the boys to Dollar Tree by school and buying things to fill a box for Katrina victims. The Dollar Tree in Bel Aire will sell supplies tax-free to anyone who can prove they attend SCA.

I filled in the calendar that hangs in the kitchen yesterday with all the kids' schedules. It is CRAZY. Between doctor appointments, Lynne's schedule, Tom's schedule, and Paul's schedule, plus any extra-curricular activities, we basically don't have any free time until November. So far we are handling everything okay, but this week it's all fallen apart. Due to JH volleyball games and girls on the team (or who want to watch) who also run cross country, the CC practices aren't starting until 7:00 p.m. That is a MESS because Robotics goes from 3:40-5:30. What to do between 5:30 and 7:00 for Tom????? So tonight John and the boys go to Dollar Tree. Tonight Lynne is going to the "Staying Alive at 25" defensive driving class at Wichita Driving School from 5:20-9:50 p.m. and that will finish her driving course. She still needs to finish her 50 hours of driving though.

Tom has to run on Mondays through the rest of CC season with the high schoolers so John and I can go to Singing Quaker Alumni Choir rehearsals by 7:00 p.m. This is actually a good thing because Coach Windholz must see a lot of promise in Tom and really works him. I saw Coach tonight and he said that no one on his team likes him anymore because he worked them so hard last night. Coach also wants to run with Tom after the season ends and do some ab training with weights. I don't know if he's wanting to do this with anyone else, but I think it's pretty cool he's this interested in Tom.

It is sooooo muggy today; it is awful! I sweat just sitting upstairs; downstairs it's not so bad. Weatherbug just sent through an alert about a thunderstorm watch until 10:00 p.m. SIGH Possible high winds (70mph) and large hail. Joy, joy. Maybe Tom won't have running tonight....
